Craig Taylor's Biography
As a professional solo entertainer I sing and play guitars covering a wide range of covers from the Beatles to Robbie Williams and from easy listening to rock and roll including classics from the past and the current hits of today’s Top 40. I have a working rep list of approx 80-100 songs and have very realistic backing tracks with top quality instruments and sound equipment on stage ensuring a great night of entertainment. I believe my solo act is well polished and professional in every way and suited to many venues and entertainment spots. I am honest, very reliable and looking to perform in quality venues and am available for lunchtime, afternoon or evening gigs any day of the week.
It has always been a passion of mine to just sing, play an instrument, or simply entertain people. Coming from a musical family there was always lots of music around me and I started performing in an old time dance band at the age of 16, singing lead vocals and playing bass guitar. By the time I was 18, I wanted to play music fulltime and put together my own rock band “No Restrictions” playing Top 40 covers in the pub and nightclub circuit touring around New Zealand.
Teaming up with my older brother forming “The TAYLOR BROTHERS” which also toured around NZ, recorded an original album, and held residencies at various hotels, clubs and night spots, including the very popular “Mountaineer Establishment” in Queenstown for the winter ski seasons. During the year of 1987 I decided to take my music to Australia and ended up in Perth to start a new duo called “FULLHOUSE” which ended up being the nucleus of the very popular show band “HOT GOSSIP” which had a residency at the Burswood International Resort and Casino and also performed regularly at the Parmelia Hilton, Observation City and other upmarket venues around the city.
I took a break from the band scene and formed a new duo, and also played solo for approx 7 years playing guitars and writing my own backing tracks and later added a female vocalist to form “COVERGRRL” which was a funky dance trio playing at a lot of Perth’s pubs, clubs and nightspots. Also at this time I was asked to perform solo on “Good Morning Australia” with Channel 9 and a guest artist on channel 7’s “Telethon”.
Wanting to perform in a live band again, I was asked to perform bass, lead vocals and also be the musical director which included writing all the backing tracks for the corporate showband “FLIRT”. I saw it as being a great opportunity to further develop my playing ability and also squeezed in tuition on classical piano, which I am currently studying. After the birth of my daughter in October 2004, we decided to relocate to Queensland, for a fresh start in the entertainment industry.
